Gage Street Cat Capers 1
Inari and Shadow slowly walked through the building, dodging the boxes and furniture.
"I don't like this. I want to go home," Inari told the grey barn cat.
"Silly cat!" Shadow responded huffily. "This is our home now. Don't you recognize this table, these chairs -- smell this mattress, it's theirs, you know."
Inari hissed at her. "You've been moving all your life. This doesn't bother you. I recently lost my brother when his human took him away. That was hard enough. Now I've been forced to leave the only home I remember. I hate this!"
"Silly cat!" Shadow repeated and turned her back to the black and white female cat and began exploring. She was so excited. Yes, she had to agree that she and her human moved a lot, but this new house was different. It was hers. There was no one else living here to complain about her toys. No annoying 'cousins' pulling her tail. No 'grandma' to try and wash her fur with wet cloths. Just a big empty house with lots of windows. She sighed in bliss.
Inari watched the grey tortoiseshell barn cat slide from room to room. She couldn't understand Shadow's excitement at being uprooted. Inari was terrified. She hated change. Even moving her food bowl from one location to another sent her into depression. How would she be able to cope with a big house? She'd only known small apartments her entire life. There were so many doors here. So many rooms where things could hide and jump out at her. No, she didn't like this new house at all! Her bed was gone -- just gone. She could see pieces of it lying in one of the rooms, but there was no place for her to hide underneath and no blankets to snuggle under. This was going to be very bad, she could just feel it.
Shadow's human appeared through one of the many doors and called to her. "Shadow baby, come see your new room!"
Shadow walked around the corner and looked at the open doorway -- there were stairs!
"Wow, Inari, a whole other home upstairs!" She exclaimed and ran up the stairs after her human, Ben.
"Fine! Great! A whole other house on top of this one! How am I supposed to get comfortable now?" She walked to the mattress on the floor and buried her face in her paws.

Nice stories! Remind me of my Purdey and Ditto stories I wrote for a student. She is in her twenties now and she kept them (in Braille).
Bear was given up (so the card said) when his people moved and my first move from Crystal Lake to Woodstock was really hard for him. The move to Milwaukee wasn't too bad. He knows his person will not abandon him.
Do you have a kitty room upstairs like Joel Grey does in the Shirley Rousseau Murphy books?
